In Evangelism "Prayer is the real work, Evangelism is just the mopping up."
D.L.Moody "I look upon this world as a wrecked vessel. God has given me a lifeboat and said to me, 'Moody, save all you can.'" "The way to reach the masses is to reach them one by one."
A troop of Boy Scouts was being used as "guinea pigs" in a test of emergency systems. A mock earthquake was staged, and the Scouts impersonated wounded persons, who were to be picked up and cared for by the emergency units. One Scout was supposed to lie on the ground and await his rescuers, but the first-aid people got behind schedule, and the Scout lay "wounded" for several hours. When the first-aid squad arrived where the casualty was supposed to be, they found nothing but this brief note: "Have bled to death and gone home." The lost and dying cannot wait for us to get around and share the love of Christ with them.
"On a motorway in England two police men arrived at a multiple pile up, in dense fog, with many cars on fire. The police men ran towards the on-coming traffic to warn them of the crash, but none of the cars took any notice and continued their speed of 40, 50 miles an hour. On of the police men described how he shouted and waved his arms, but they didn't slow down. He could hear the cars behind him smashing into the pile up and with tears in his eyes he picked up traffic cones and through them at the cars, but they just bounced of the bonnets."
Henry Martyn "The Spirit of Christ is the spirit of missions, and the nearer we get to Him the more intensely missionary we must become."
David Brainerd Missionary to American Indians (1718 - 1747) "I care not where I live, or what hardships I go through, so that I can but gain souls to Christ. While I am asleep, I dream of these things; as soon as I awake, the first thing I think of is this great work. All my desire is the conversion of sinners, and all my hope is in God."
General William Booth "Soup, Soap and Salvation." "While women weep as they do now, I'll fight While little children go hungry as they do now, I'll fight While men go to prison, in and out, in and out, I'll fight While there is a poor lost girl upon the street, I'll fight While there yet remains one dark soul without the light of God I'll fight, I'll fight to the very end."
Catherine Booth "There are thousands whom God is yearning to use in the soul winning work, but dare not. Success would turn their heads and be their ruin."
C.T.Studd "Some people like to live within the sound of a Church or Chapel Bell I would rather run a rescue shop with in a yard of hell."
R.A.Torrey "I would rather win souls than be the greatest King or Emperor on earth; I would rather win souls than be the greatest general that ever commanded an army; I would rather win souls than be the greatest poet, or novelist, or literary man who ever walked this earth. My one ambition in life is to win as many as possible. Oh, it is the only thing worth doing, to save souls, and men and women - we can all do it!"
It is easy to determine when something is aflame. It ignites other material. Any fire that does not spread will eventually go out. A church without evangelism is a contradiction in terms, just as a fire that does not burn is a contradiction. Christian Theology in Plain Language, p. 162
"fishermen who don't fish fight." Story of two fishermen going off for a fishing weekend in US, weather turns bad. First day they playcards, second day they read, third day things are getting tense, forth day they are actually at each others throats. Implications for us a Christians..."
John Bunyon "If I were fruitless it mattered not who commended me; but if I were fruitful I cared not who did condemn."
Great Failures Out of the first four stores F. W. Woolworth opened, three failed. When he died, he was worth more than $20 million. Einstein was 4 years old before he could speak. Isaac Newton did poorly in grand school and was considered "unpromising". Beethoven's music teacher once said of him, "As a composer, he is hopeless." Michael Jordan was cut from his high school basketball team. Walt Disney was fired from a newspaper because he "lacked imagination, and had no good ideas". Admiral Peary tried to reach the North Pole on seven different trips before he made it on the eighth. Thomas Edison's teacher told him he was too stupid to learn anything. Later, he tried 1,600 different materials before settling on carbon as the filament for the electric light bulb. Noah preached for 120 years and had NO converts.
