B.I.B.L.E
Best Instructions Before Leaving Earth

J. Bunion
"The Bible will keep you from sin, or sin will keep you from the Bible."

Ref - Your Daily Walk - P.264
"Study the bible to be wise, believe it to be safe, practice it to be holy."

D L Moody
"Every Bible should be bound in Shoe Leather."

(Slogan used by United Bible Societies)
"Go buy the Book and then go by the book."

If a Bible is falling apart, it is usually owned by someone who isn't.

J.R.Packer
"If I were the devil I would want to stop people from digging in their Bible."

A.W.Tozer
"Everywhere among Conservatives we find persons who are Bible-taught but not Spirit-taught.  They conceive truth to be something which they can grasp with the mind.  If a man holds to fundamentals of the Christian faith he is thought to possess divine truth.  But it does not follow.  There is no truth apart from the Spirit."

'To be, not to do, that is the answer.' God desires our 'being' much more
than our 'doing'.

Having control over ones self is of much greater worth than having control over others.

Sleep refreshes body, mind and spirit, but you have to wake up to
experience the benefits.

Let failure breed experience, not despair.

Clean Laugh
A guy goes into a restaurant, orders supper and is waiting for his meal, when he hears, "You look great!"  He looks around -- there's nobody near him, so he just keeps drinking his water. A few minutes later, he hears the voice again.  "Sharp tie!" it says. The guy looks around again, and again there's nobody around. After another couple of minutes, he hears, "Is that a new shirt or something? You are absolutely glowing!" He realises that the voice is coming from a basket of bread on the table. "Hey!" the guy calls to a waiter, "What's with the bread?" "Oh," the waiter says, "it's complimentary."
- The Bible although Bread is not Complimentary about Mankind

A ship was sailing towards the light of another ship, so the captain said over the radio "turn 40 deg. west".   The voice came back "No you turn 40 deg. east".  The captain replied "I am a English destroyer, you turn 40 deg. west".  The voice came back "I am a light house you turn 40 deg. east"

Hearing God
There is the story told of the farmer who finally was persuaded by his nephew to visit the big city.  The young man proudly took the old farmer on a tour of his metropolis. At one point as they walked down the street the old man suddenly stopped and asked, "Did you hear that?" The young man looked at the milling pedestrians and the traffic and replied, "Hear what?" "A cricket," the old man said as he walked toward a little tuft of grass growing out of a crack next to a tall building. Sure enough, there tucked in the crack was a cricket making the unique sound they do.
The young man was amazed.  "How could you pick up the sound of a cricket in all this noise?" he asked.  The old farmer didn't say a word and just reached into his pocket, pulled out a couple of coins and dropped them on the sidewalk. Immediately a number of people began to reach for their pockets or look down at the sidewalk. The old man observed, "We hear what our ears are trained to hear."
If you cannot hear the voice of the Almighty maybe it is because your ear is trained to hear the wrong things.

Nine year old Joey, was asked by his mother what he had learned in Sunday school. "Well, Mom, our teacher told us how God sent Moses behind enemy lines on a rescue mission to lead the Israelites out of Egypt. When he got to the Red Sea, he had his engineers build a pontoon bridge and all the people walked across safely.  Then he used his walkie - talkie to radio headquarters for reinforcements.  They sent bombers to blow up the bridge and all the Israelites were saved."  "Now, Joey, is that really what your teacher taught you?" his mother asked.  "Well, no, Mom.  But if I told it the way the teacher did, you'd never believe it!"

Sharpen Your Axe
A young man approached the foreman of a logging crew and asked for a job. "That depends," replied the foreman.  "Let's see you chop down this tree." The young man stepped forward and skilfully chopped down a great tree. Impressed, the foreman exclaimed, "You can start Monday." Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday rolled by -- and Thursday afternoon the foreman approached the young man and said, "You can pick up your pay check on the way out today." Startled, the young man replied, "I thought you paid on Friday." "Normally we do," said the foreman.  "But we're letting you go today because you've fallen behind.  Our daily felling charts show that you've dropped from first place on Monday to last place today." "But I'm a hard worker," the young man objected. "I arrive first, leave last and even have worked through my coffee breaks!" The foreman, sensing the young man's integrity, thought for a minute and then asked, "Have you been sharpening your axe?" The young man replied, "No sir, I've been working too hard to take time for that!"

In a student survey
You are walking down a dark, drity alley way late at night and you hear a number of foot steps behind you.  As you glance over your shoulder to spot a gang of large, rather rough looking men gaining on you.
Would it make any difference if you knew they had just come out of a bible study?

Tennessee Ernie Ford in his introduction to the hymn "Farther Along", on the album How Great Thou Art, Capitol Records Inc., Hollywood, CA.  1983.  Tells the story of a young man who was preparing for a long trip.  He told his friend, "I am just about packed.  I only have to put in a guide book, a mirror, a microscope, a lamp, a telescope, a volume of fine poetry, a package of old letters, a few biographies, a book of songs, a sword, a hammer and a set of books I've been studying." "But you can't get all that into your bag," said his friend. "Oh yes I can," he replied, "it doesn't take much room."  With that he placed his Bible in the corner of his suitcase and closed the lid.
