William Temple "We contribute nothing to our salvation except the sin from which we need to be saved."
J C Ryle "There are three things to beware of; a little poison, a little sin and a little false doctrine."
A snow ball when rolling down a hill collects more snow, giving it a greater size and weight. The mass grows due to the speed and the snow becoming more compact. Therefore the velocity increases, increasing ten fold its destructive force. Similarly, the nature of sin separates us from God, due to the fact that God is pure and holy, and can't abide sin. Isaiah 59:2 But your iniquities have come between you and your God, and your sins have hidden His face from you, from hearing. So just as the snowball gains destructive power, so the nature of sin grows within a person and situation. The more we sin the more we shut God out of the picture. Because not only does God turn His back on us, but we due to our fear of the feeling of guilt turn our back on God. The further we remove our conscious thought from God, the less we are also conscious of His law and conviction of being under it.
God hides himself from man because of sin Deuteronomy 31:18 And I will surely hide My face in that day for all the evils which they have done, for they shall turn to other gods. Psalms 44:24 Why do You hide Your face, and forget our affliction and distress? Micah 3:4 Then they shall cry to the LORD, but He will not answer them. He will even hide His face from them at that time, as they have done evil in their doings.
Man hides himself from God because of sin Genesis 3:10 And he said, I heard Your voice in the garden, and I was afraid, because I am naked, and I hid myself. Ezra 9:6 And I said, O my God, I am ashamed and blush to lift up my face to You, my God. For our iniquities have increased over our heads, and our guiltiness has grown up to the heavens. Job 8:22 Those who hate you shall be clothed with shame; and the tent of the wicked shall be no more. Psalms 44:15 My shame is always before me, and the shame of my face has covered me:
